Transfers of Credit

Per UF policy, MS students and PhD students may transfer up to 9 credits and 30 credits of approved coursework, respectively. For good academic planning, all requests for transfers of credit must be submitted to Audrey (a.dickinson@uf.edu) at UF CVM Office of Research and Graduate Studies for review and possible approval within four weeks after the first semester of graduate education. For more information, please review handout prepared by the UF Graduate School.

In addition, proposed transfers of credit must be included in the student’s Form 1 with proposed coursework (flight plan/schedule of courses). Form 1 must contain the signatures of the entire supervisory committee, Department Graduate Coordinator, and Associate Dean for research and graduate studies, or the designated representative. Signers (approvers) must evaluate the proposed coursework for its relevance to the current program of study. Form 1 with all signatures from all committee members and the Department Graduate Coordinator is due on December 1. Please send Form 1 to a.dickinson@ufl.edu at UF CVM Office of Research and Graduate Studies for review/approval by the Associate Dean.

Considerations for International Students

Applicants with coursework taken outside the United States should apply far in advance of the stated deadlines of your intended program of study due to the time it will take to process international credentials. If your post-secondary educational history includes coursework from outside the United States, you must submit the following documentation:

  • A course-by-course credential evaluation, with grade point average (GPA) calculation included, for all non-U.S. coursework. UF accepts an evaluation from any member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services. This is a REQUIREMENT for any student seeking to transfer credits. The applicant is solely responsible for evaluation-related fees that may apply.  A transfer of credit requires approval at several levels with the final determination made by the UF Graduate School.
    • An alternate possibility when hoping to transfer credits is for selected applicants who are admitted to UF to submit copies of term-specific course syllabi to UF CVM Office of Research and Graduate Studies (ORGS)a.dickinson@ufl.edu within the first term of enrollment. CVM ORGS will assess if selected courses and credits  might be transferable in terms of level, content, comparability, and degree program relevance.

  • All transcripts and examination certificates of non-U.S. secondary and/or post-secondary coursework in the native language of instruction and a word-for-word certified, literal (exact) English translation (if applicable). Unofficial transcripts are accepted electronically for the review process, while official transcripts and translations are required upon enrollment.
